I have been studying food engineering at the University of Chile for two years. The carrer lasts for 11 semesters and each semester has 7 subjects, therefore, the academic load is quite. The subjects are related to each other, but even so they are different and you have to study and work extra.
The subjects are very varied, I have subjects of physics, biology and oral and written communication,
but in my career the most important subjects are those related to chemistry and mathematics. Unfortunately I haven't seen many subjects that relate to my career yet. The first year I had a subject called Introduction to Food Engineering, but I feel that it was not enough. I would like that it's to be more motivational and practical. My faculty has different buildings, but these buildings aren’t very functional. There are places to eat, but unfortunately not enough for everyone, I think it would be a good idea to have a casino and more
microwave.
The places to study are small, there are study rooms, but they are always occupied. The library has few tables and few computers, the environment doesn’t help much to the concentration sometimes, so you can’t always study at the university.
Sometimes I should go to the dental faculty library, since it is more comfortable. In laboratories, the equipment that is used often harms work, is not in good condition, this is very unfortunate, because it harms learning. I think it is very important to solve these problems, so that students learn in a good way.
Finally I would like to talk about the teaching methods in our faculty, because of few are the teachers who studied pedagogy and that in many occasions makes learning difficult and the subject is not understood, so we should ask for help from the assistants. There are classes that lack motivation and are very boring...
